Campus Ministry

Reflecting our Catholic value that all people are created in the image and likeness of God, Campus Ministry strives to be a home for all students to integrate faith into the whole of their lives from an intellectual and spiritual perspective. Rooted in our Ignatian identity, we welcome students from all faith traditions and at all points on their spiritual journey. Recognizing the need for solidarity in today’s world, we seek to nurture a "faith that does justice."

Come visit us in our office, located on the lower level of the Egan Chapel of St. Ignatius Loyola!

Encountering Faith. Deepening Knowledge. Transforming Lives.

Our Guiding Principles and Values:

  • Solidarity that animates our desire to do justice in the world.
  • Encountering the Holy by inviting each person on a spiritual journey that includes prayer, reflection and worship.
  • Hospitality - welcoming students to participate in community, valued for who they are.
  • Transformational Growth - inviting students to explore vocation, resilience, leadership and engagement.
  • Religious Diversity - cultivating relationships and opportunities for dialogue within and across religious difference.
  • Ignatian Spirituality - exploring language and concepts through which students can make sense and meaning of their experiences.
  • Stewardship and Sustainability - ensuring a more just use of our shared resources and care for our common home.

Egan Chapel of St. Ignatius Loyola

Established in 1990 and named in honor of St. Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, and John J. and Marion P. Egan, parents of former University Trustee Bill Egan ’67, P’99, the Egan Chapel of St. Ignatius Loyola is the spiritual heart of Fairfield University, designed to provide a space for students to explore and discover themselves and their vocations.

Egan Chapel opened during the worldwide Ignatian Year Celebration of 1990-91, in commemoration of two milestone events in Jesuit history: the 450th anniversary of the founding of the Society of Jesus in 1540, and the 500th anniversary of the birth of St. Ignatius in 1491.

Social Justice Groups

Students for Social Justice

Students for Social Justice (S4SJ) is a dynamic, student-lead group that aims to educate, advocate, and activate around issues of social justice, to be a voice for the voiceless, and to further enrich Fairfield's mission in the service of faith and the promotion of justice. Past activities have included a Darfur activism campaign, Congressional letter writing campaigns, a Fair-Trade Bazaar and Fashion Show, and the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice.

Open to all classes, the group meets weekly in Campus Ministry. All are welcome! Contact Katie Byrnes, (203) 254-4000 x2901.

Students for Life

Participants aim to learn about, understand, and raise awareness about pro-life issues on our campus and in our communities. Students explore initiatives that focus on increasing respect and dignity for people at every stage of life. Contact Katie Byrnes, (203) 254-4000, x2901.

Community Engagement

Community engagement is at the heart of Fairfield University’s mission as a modern Jesuit Catholic institution to “develop the creative intellectual potential of its students and to foster in them ethical and religious values and a sense of social responsibility.” Our commitment to pursuing academic excellence in the Ignatian tradition invites our students, faculty, and staff to develop an ongoing intellectual and spiritual practice of encounter, reflection, and action.

Community engagement welcomes local and global partners into that practice with the dual purpose of enacting social change and fostering mutual learning.
