Catholic Studies Panel: Pro-Life Has No Limits: Pope Francis and the Death Penalty
Chair: Paul Lakeland, PhD, Aloysius P. Kelley Professor of Catholic Studies

Speakers: Professor Dan Cosacchi and Professor Eleanor Sauers, Dept. of Religious Studies

Pope Francis’s decision in August to revise church teaching on the death penalty, calling it “inadmissible” in all circumstances, continues the direction set by his two predecessors but takes the final step in identifying the Catholic Church with a worldwide struggle to end state-sponsored executions. This has implications for American Catholics, since the United States is an outlier in the international community in continuing the practice of capital punishment, and a slight majority of Americans and American Catholics continue to support it. It also closes the circle on the church’s commitment to a “seamless garment” approach to pro-life issues.

In order to accommodate all our current students who will be looking to eat brunch later that morning, we have created a second meal time (10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.) downstairs for any Alumni & Family Weekend guests that would like to eat brunch beginning at 10:30 a.m. Both meal times cost $15 per ticket, with children under the age of 10 being free. Additional Breakfast & Brunch vouchers will be available for purchase at the Tully Information Desk, 3rd floor, Barone Campus Center prior to each meal time.

Q: Do I have to pay for my Fairfield student to attend Sunday Breakfast or Brunch?
A: Current Fairfield University students with or without a meal plan are welcome to attend either meal time by showing their StagCard at the respective meal location, if accompanied by family.
