Emergency Medical Technician (E.M.T.)

The Fairfield University Department of Public Safety, in collaboration with Echo Hose Ambulance in Shelton, offers an Emergency Medical Technician Course established by the State of Connecticut and National Registry of EMT’s.

An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is an emergency responder trained to provide emergency medical care to the critically ill or injured. EMTs are trained in entry-level emergency medical care including those critical skills necessary for rapid response, initial patient assessment and treatment, patient immobilization, patient extrication and movement, and transportation. Patient treatment guidelines are described in local protocols which typically follow both national standards as well as local policies. the safe and timely transport of the patient to the hospital for more definitive care. This 160 plus hour Emergency Medical Technician (EMT- Basic) course includes all the skills necessary to provide emergency medical care at a basic life support level. 

Requirements

  • Must be 16 by the last day of class.
  • Must have a parental consent form signed if under the age of 18 
  • Clinical time (arranged by course coordinator)
  • Successful completion of NIMS 100, 200, 700, & 800
  • Successful completion of CPR for the Healthcare Provider
  • Signing and adhering to a course contract and code of conduct
  • AAOS Emergency Care for the Sick and Injured 11th (provided)
  • Proper attire (Business Casual) is required at all times while participating in the program
  • Successful completion of all course requirements

Cost: 985.00 (includes textbook)

Dates: Saturdays only beginning September 7 through December 14, 2019

Times: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Location: Fairfield University Department of Public Safety Training Room…Loyola Hall, Rm 2.

Practical sessions and 10 hours of clinical rotation will occur at Echo Hose in Shelton. www.echohose.com.

Have your car seat checked for FREE by a certified child passenger safety technician. You will learn how to correctly install your car seat and safely secure your child.

Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.)

ps_training2The Department of Public Safety offers Rape Aggression Defense Training (R.A.D.), a nationally recognized self defense program for women. The R.A.D. system teaches easy, effective, and proven self defense tactics and is designed to provide women with the knowledge to make an educated decision about resistance.

Each course consists of four 4 hour classes in which participants are provided with manuals, equipment and supplies. This course is taught by Fairfield University Public Safety officers who are nationally certified R.A.D. Instructors.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

The Department of Public Safety offers Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with the curriculum of the American Heart Association. This certificate program enables the student to provide Basic Life Support (BLS) functions in a life threatening situation.

This eight hour course consists of both lecture and hands-on instruction and participants will be provided with manual and training equipment. This course is taught by Fairfield University Public Safety Officers who are certified as CPR Instructors.
