We were freshmen at Fairfield University when we first met! We were both living in Regis and had English class together, but it was during Meet the Candidates night while campaigning to be class senators for FUSA that we talked to each other for the first time. We were in the dining hall walking around and introducing ourselves to fellow classmates to try and convince them to vote for us, and we both distinctly remember meeting each other — something just *clicked*. Our friendship grew over the course of that first year in 2010, finding out that we actually grew up in the same town of Trumbull, CT, before Sam moved to Niantic, CT in elementary school. We knew mutual people from Trumbull, and it was a strange coincidence that both our moms grew up in the same city (Bridgeport) and both our dads grew up in the same town (Trumbull). Also, Sam's mom and dad — who both graduated from Fairfield University (Paul Maxfield, class of 1981, Christine Maxfield, class of 1983) got married at Fairfield University, and Nicoletta's mom and dad took wedding photos on campus — AND her mom (Sandy Richardson) works at Fairfield! So our Stag blood runs deep. Freshmen year came and went, and we had a friendship that we both knew could turn into more. Our second year, Nicoletta was the Chair of Academics while Sam was Chair of Student Life, so we had a professional relationship going that we used as an excuse to get together. Finally, Sam asked Nicoletta on a date (to good ol' Flipside!) and officially asked her to be his girlfriend on Oct. 24, 2011. And as they say, the rest is history! 10 years and some change later, we got married on Nov. 5, 2021 at Latitude 41 in Mystic, CT. We owe so much to Fairfield University for bringing us together and helping us find our life partner and best friend (Nicoletta and Sam even did the Stag hands in the middle of their wedding ceremony). And at the end of the night, we gathered all Fairfield U graduates and took a group photo — showing that not only did our alma mater give us one another, but a whole Stag family to have throughout life. We are so grateful for you, Fairfield!
