Eileen Bossone Receives Employee Choice Award at Service Recognition Reception
On a beautiful late summer afternoon in August, the focus at Fairfield University was a celebration about people – in this case, a very special group of individuals – the employees of the University.
Current faculty, staff, and retirees gathered in the Oak Room for the 22nd Annual Service Recognition Reception hosted by the Office of Human Resources. The honorees were individuals who have reached milestones in their tenure at the institution – 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and even 45 years. Special recognition at the event also was given to retiring administrators, faculty and staff, and 25-year Service Award recipients.
Eileen Bossone, administrative coordinator in the Office of the President, was recipient of the 2014 Rev. W. Laurence O’Neil, S.J. Employee Choice Award. Bossone is pictured third from right in a photo taken when she was a sophomore residential college mentor for Creative Life. This 2012 photo, from the September Retreat in Iroquois Springs, also includes (left-right) Jennifer Dressel, Katie Pitz, George Tioutine, Allison Beattie, Brian Alexander, and Nick Melaragno, who are all seniors now.
This year was the 20th year in which a Choice Award was presented. The award is named for the late Rev. Larry O’Neil, S.J., who served the University for 49 years and is given to an individual who “models what Fairfield is all about,” according to Human Resources Director Mark Gugliemoni.”Someone who models Fr. O’Neil’s love for Fairfield and his commitment to service to others; who lives the mission and enhances the culture of Fairfield; who has a positive and caring attitude, and who makes all of our jobs a bit easier.”
Unfortunately, due to a previous personal commitment, Eileen was not on hand to receive the distinguished award. In an e-mail, Eileen said, “I was surprised and honored when Mark Guglielmoni told me before the reception. I only wish I could have been there in person. I am so honored to receive this award. I love the University and sometimes we take for granted how truly blessed we are to have such a nice place to work every day and with such nice people. I was very good friends with Father O’Neil and I can’t help but think that he had something to do with this. Bless him, he was such a very special person.”
Twenty-five Year Service Award recipients honored at the event included Kathleen Borrelli, Raymond Bordeau, Janice Buswell, Matthew Coleman, Wayne DeWitt, Martha LoMonaco, Nicholas Papillo, Susanne Quinlivan, Harold Reed and Caterina Salito.
Individuals retiring from the University were also recognized: Catherine Alberti, Dr. Jack W. Beal, Adrienne Berndimaier, Thomas Curran, Dr. Evangelos Hadjimichael, Karen E. Hira, Dr. Dennis G. Hodgson, Dr. Doris T. Lippman, Jean-Henry Mathurin, Dr. Laurence A. Miners, Dr. Leo F. O’Connor, Nicholas J. Papillo, Dr. Richard J. Regan, and Joann M. Solemene.
