Todd Kress Earns 500th Career Win

The Stags celebrate Coach Kress's 500th win

Fairfield Volleyball swept both ends of MAAC opening weekend to clinch the milestone victory.

Reaching the 500-win mark makes me think about all of the incredible student-athletes and assistant coaches that I've been fortunate to work with in my career. I am grateful to all of the programs and people that have given me opportunities throughout the years.

— Head Coach Todd Kress

Fairfield University Volleyball Head Coach Todd Kress earned his 500th career victory on Sunday, Sept. 18, as the Stags swept Niagara to complete a 2-0 weekend in Western New York. Kress is in his 13th year at Fairfield and his 27th as a Division I head coach.

Kress owns a lifetime record of 500-312 (.616). He is also the all-time winningest coach in Fairfield and MAAC Volleyball history with 266 wins (266-117, .695) leading the Stags. The eight-time MAAC Coach of the Year and seven-time MAAC Champion has also led the programs at Northern Illinois, Florida State and Buffalo.

"Reaching the 500-win mark makes me think about all of the incredible student-athletes and assistant coaches that I've been fortunate to work with in my career," said Kress in his post-match interview. "I am grateful to all of the programs and people that have given me opportunities throughout the years. It's special to share this milestone today standing alongside one of my best friends [Associate Head Coach Melissa Batie-Smoose] and to be coaching this special group of young women on our team this year."

Kress took the helm of Fairfield Volleyball in 1995 and coached for four seasons, winning three MAAC Coach of the Year awards and the program’s first two MAAC Championships in 1997 and 1998. He returned to the Stags in 2014 and has since added five MAAC Championships and Coach of the Year distinctions.

The 2022 Stags are 8-5 overall and 2-0 in the MAAC following this past weekend’s sweeps at Canisius and Niagara. Next up, the ledger brings Fairfield to Marist and Siena on Sept. 24-25 before action returns to the RecPlex for a 1 p.m. visit from in-state MAAC foe Quinnipiac on Oct. 1.

Admission is free for all fans at all Fairfield Volleyball home matches at the RecPlex this season.
