Egan Chapel of St. Ignatius Loyola at Fairfield University
Fairfield University's Campus Ministry invites you to join us at the Egan Chapel of St. Ignatius Loyola for the following liturgical services taking place over Holy Week and on Easter Sunday. While in-person participation is limited to University students and employees with permission to be on campus, all others are encouraged to attend via Zoom (access code 916 9363 8989).
Palm Sunday | March 28
Mass: 11 a.m. | 5 p.m. | 7 p.m. | 9 p.m.
The liturgy begins with the blessing of palms to remind us of Jesus' triumphal entry into the city of Jerusalem, and includes a Gospel reading of the Passion of Our Lord.
Holy Thursday | April 1
Mass of the Lord’s Supper: 7 p.m.
Holy Thursday is also known as Maundy Thursday, named for Jesus' "mandatum," or commandment, to love one another as he loves us. The liturgy includes the washing of feet, an act of loving service.
Good Friday | April 2
Service: 3 p.m.
The liturgical observance of Jesus' suffering, crucifixion, and death on Good Friday is called the Mass of the Presanctified because it includes Holy Communion previously consecrated at Mass on Maundy Thursday.
Holy Saturday | April 3
Easter Vigil: 7:30 p.m.
The primary Mass of Easter begins after sunset with the lighting of the Paschal Candle to celebrate the victory of light over darkness.
Easter Sunday | April 4, 2021
Easter Mass: 11 a.m. | 5 p.m.
Absent during Lent, shouts of "Alleluia!" will joyfully greet the risen Lord at Easter Mass on the Sunday of the Resurrection.
