Fairfield University Egan School Named Top 5 in New England Region by Nursing Schools Almanac

The independent ranking organization collected data on more than 3,000 nursing schools and campuses throughout the United States and evaluated each school on academic prestige and value, breadth and depth of programs, and student success.

Fairfield University’s Marion Peckham Egan School of Nursing and Health Studies has been named among the top 5 nursing schools in the New England Region by Nursing Schools Almanac’s 2020 ranking of the 60 Best Nursing Schools in New England. Ranked at No. 5 by the online nursing student resource, Fairfield is joined by the likes of Yale University (No. 1), Boston College (No. 2), University of Connecticut (No. 3), and University of Massachusetts Medical School (No. 4) in the Nursing Schools Almanac’s 2020 review.

Out of a review of more than 3,000 nursing schools nationwide, the Egan School was also included on Nursing Schools Almanac’s 2020 ranking for the 100 Best Nursing Schools in the United States, placing at No. 46 among the total schools considered. Additionally, Fairfield Egan earned a No. 20 spot on the ranking’s list of top 100 private nursing schools in the nation.

Each nursing school was evaluated by the independent ranking organization on three dimensions: the institution's academic prestige and perceived value; the breadth and depth of nursing programs offered; and student success, particularly on the NCLEX licensure examination. These rankings were then combined into an overall score, producing the comprehensive regional ranking.

Fairfield’s high placement on the list was attributed to the consistent rankings of its MSN and DNP programs as among the best in nation by U.S. News & World Report. The Egan School’s Master of Science in Nursing Leadership, recognized by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, also contributed to its inclusion in the ranking, as did Egan School's 90 percent first-try NCLEX passage rate for prelicensure BSN graduates over the past 10 years.
