With a 12-7 win over Iona, the Stags have won their ninth MAAC Championship in program history and their seventh consecutive NCAA postseason bid.
A lockdown defensive effort and a balanced attack in last Sunday’s 12-7 win over Iona led Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse to the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship. The Stags earned their ninth MAAC Championship in program history and advanced to the NCAA postseason for the seventh consecutive campaign.
"No journey is the same, and this year’s team really fought for this one. We battled through injuries and a difficult non-conference, and we just stuck together and kept finding a way," said Head Coach Laura Field.
Coach Field tied former Canisius Head Coach Scott Teeter with her sixth MAAC Championship as a head coach (2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2025). The 10th-year leader of the Stags was also on the sidelines for two conference crowns as an assistant coach for her predecessor, Mike Waldvogel, in 2009 and 2015.
MAAC Offensive Player of the Year Amanda Kozak ’24 was named the MAAC Championship MVP. She tallied six points in the championship game and eight in the Stags’ semifinal win over Siena. On the season, Kozak has now recorded only the 11th 70-point season in Fairfield history with 71 to date.
Kozak was joined on the All-Championship Team by Macey Daly ’24, Brynn Donnelly ’26, Katherine Shammas ’26, and Grace Slater ’25.
The Stags earned their seventh consecutive NCAA postseason berth, drawing #6 Maryland for a first-round game in College Park on Friday, May 9 at noon. The current run of NCAA appearances includes the first-ever at-large bid in both Fairfield and MAAC Women’s Lacrosse history in 2024. Fairfield is one of 14 teams in the 2025 tournament field that is competing on the national stage for seven (or more) consecutive seasons.
This year’s NCAA appearance is the ninth overall bid for the Stags to the national tournament since 2009.
