Fairfield Baseball is ranked #23 by Baseball America.

After earning four more wins this past weekend to improve to 25-0, Fairfield University Baseball garnered the program’s first-ever national ranking. The country’s last remaining unbeaten team was slotted at #23 by Baseball America this past Monday. The Stags are also ranked #2 in the national RPI — a formula used to help determine at-large bids for the NCAA postseason.

"It's good for Fairfield to get the national attention, but it's especially good for the players and the coaches who have worked so hard in this difficult year on their own and at practice," Head Coach Bill Currier said. "They've been doing the difficult work in the weight room and in the preseason. They haven't been sitting back and reading their clippings, they've been coming out with the same energy, the same confidence, and the same way around their business every time they have stepped on the field."

Most recently, Fairfield swept a four-game road series at Manhattan to boost their unblemished record to 25-0. Including the win at Stetson to close the 2020 season, the Stags have won 26 consecutive games — eight shy of the NCAA Division I record of 34 set by Texas in 1977 and matched by Florida Atlantic in 1999. The 26 consecutive wins and 25 straight conference victories both mark Fairfield and MAAC records, and Fairfield’s 25 total MAAC wins this spring are also the most in a single season in league history.

Fairfield has eight more games scheduled for the regular season, beginning with a four-game series on Alumni Diamond this weekend against visiting Siena. The Stags and Saints will play a pair of doubleheaders on May 1-2 with first pitch slated for noon on both days. The regular season wraps up next weekend at Niagara.
