In celebration of the 50th anniversary of women at Fairfield, The Inigas Series draws inspiration from the group of women who spiritually and financially supported St. Ignatius of Loyola in Manresa, Spain during the 16th century.
Throughout the 2020-21 academic year, Fairfield University is commemorating the 50th anniversary of coeducation, and celebrating all the women who have made their mark on our community over the past half-century. In keeping with this celebratory theme, the Murphy Center for Ignatian Spirituality and Campus Ministry are continuing their Inigas Series of webinar events with an Advent retreat on Tuesday, December 1.
Entitled, “An Advent Retreat: Spiritual Gifts of Waiting,” the Murphy Center will welcome The Reverend Deborah Roy, who, beginning at 6:30 p.m., will guide participants on a 90-minute retreat focusing on the spiritual gifts found in waiting. All are welcome to participate in the retreat, which will include time for individual and small group reflection.
Rev. Deborah Roy is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ and a Certified Spiritual Director. She has served three churches as a solo pastor in Vermont and Connecticut prior to pursuing spiritual direction full time. Rev. Roy also holds a Master of Divinity degree from Andover Newton Theological School and a Master of Sacred Theology degree from Yale Divinity School with a focus on Monastic Spirituality.
Additionally, she has been part of the extended community of Glastonbury Abbey, a Benedictine community in Massachusetts, for 15 years, where she often leads retreats. She became an oblate of the abbey in 2011. She has worked alongside the Murphy Center since August 2017 and also sees spiritual directees in Manhattan, where she currently resides.
