Fairfield’s Egan School Simulation Lab Receives SSH Accreditation

The Simulation Center within Fairfield University’s Marion Peckham Egan School of Nursing & Health Studies has received a five-year accreditation by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH).

Our faculty and staff have worked tirelessly to ensure we have a quality simulation program, and we are honored and excited that we have been granted accreditation by our expert simulation colleagues at SSH.

“Accreditation from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) is recognition that our program meets all best practice standards around simulation and has two full years of data to support this designation,” stated Director of Simulation Susan Reynolds, RN, BSN, MAHSM. “Our faculty and staff have worked tirelessly to ensure we have a quality simulation program and we are honored and excited that we have been granted accreditation by our expert simulation colleagues at SSH.”

Selection for accreditation involved a peer-reviewed, customized evaluation of healthcare simulation programs. The council examined the simulation program's processes and outcomes in assessment, research, teaching/education, and systems integration. The process also included a site visit by three simulation experts from across the country, and interviews with faculty, staff, and students.

“Simulation is an important component of modern nursing education. It enables us to ensure Egan students gain the patient experiences that will best prepare them to pass their board exams and be successful in their future practice,” said Reynolds.

Egan’s programs use the latest in healthcare equipment and modern classroom settings to provide a practical and engaging education for students, while offering a strong liberal arts education with the theory-based knowledge and skills to work in the expanding fields of nursing and health studies. Students grow both personally and professionally to become committed and compassionate nurses, capable of providing professional care to people in any setting.

The accreditation of the Egan School simulation lab is the latest in a series of accolades for the school. In their annual rankings for graduate schools, U.S. News and World Report named the Egan School among the best in the country in the category of Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree, as well as Master of Nursing degree. Additionally, the Egan School has been ranked in the top 5% of all nursing programs in the U.S. by College Factual’s 2019 Best Nursing Colleges report.
