Fairfield Ranks Top 20% on National Forbes Top Colleges List, Earned Top 5 Placements in Statewide Rankings by Niche

The University earned top 5 placement in several statewide rankings from Niche, including: #1 Best Colleges for Nursing, #2 Best Colleges for Business, Best Colleges for Accounting and Finance, and #3 Best College Locations.

On the heels of national Princeton Review, Money magazine, and College Consensus rankings, Fairfield University continues to be lauded as a modern, Jesuit university known for the quality of its academics, campus, and culture.

Named No. 2 Best Value College in Connecticut in research site Niche’s 2020 Best Colleges ranking, Fairfield was ranked just behind Yale University based on a calculation of net price, alumni earnings, graduation rate, and student debt data. Fairfield also placed one spot higher in this year’s ranking of Best Colleges in Connecticut, placing No. 4 out of 23 schools. Additionally, Fairfield earned top 5 placement in several statewide rankings, including Best Colleges for Nursing (No. 1), Best Colleges for Business (No. 2), Best Colleges for Accounting and Finance (No. 2), Best College Locations (No. 3), Best College Campuses (No. 3), Top Private Universities (No. 3), Best Colleges (No. 4), Colleges with Best Student Life (No. 4), Safest College Campuses (No. 5), and Best College Dorms (No. 5).

Regionally, Fairfield continued to earn high marks in Niche’s 2020 college rankings, garnering a Top 10 spot on the  Best Value Colleges in the New York City Area list (No. 5) and the overall Best Colleges in the New York City area list (No. 9).

The University’s accolades continued in the nationwide rankings, with Fairfield placing in the top 6% of colleges nationwide on Niche’s overall 2020 Best Value Colleges in America list, earning a No. 87 spot out of 1,592 schools included in the review. Additionally, Fairfield was named to the top 10% on several national lists, including Best Test Optional Colleges in America (No. 12 of 122), and Best Colleges for Nursing in America (No. 43 of 618). Fairfield also improved its standing on the Best Catholic Colleges in America list, jumping four spots to No. 16 of 164 in this year’s ranking.

The national distinctions continued with top 20% rankings on lists including Best Colleges for Accounting and Finance in America (top 11%). Fairfield jumped 14 spots on Niche’s ranking of Top Private Universities in America, placing No. 132 out of 958 schools, while also improving its place on the overall Best Colleges in America list by 39 spots, placing No. 205 out of 1,626 schools ranking in the review.

Fairfield’s recent high marks didn’t end there, as it was once again named to Forbes’ annual list of America’s Top Colleges, improving its ranking by 10 spots and placing at No. 135 out of 650 schools included in the national list. The ranking puts Fairfield in the top 20% of colleges and universities in the United States. 

Fairfield also improved its position on both the regional ranking of Forbes’ Top Colleges in the Northeast and its ranking of Top Private Colleges. The University climbed five spots higher to No. 100 in the Northeast region out of 203 schools, and came in at No. 64 out of 400 schools on Forbes’ comparison of private colleges and universities, placing Fairfield in the top 16% of all private colleges and universities included in this year’s ranking.

Forbes' list of the top colleges in America is based on six ranking categories: alumni salary; student satisfaction; debt; American leaders, which accounts for 15% of a school’s score and is based on Forbes’ database of successful people and where they have studied; on-time graduation rate; and academic success. 

Fairfield’s ascent in the national and regional rankings is linked to its high 90% freshman-to-sophomore retention rate, its generous financial aid offerings, and its 82% graduation rate. Forbes also cites Fairfield’s “quality Jesuit education” and “plethora of Fulbright scholars” as additional noteworthy assets for the University’s high marks in their 2019 ranking.
