Big wins and nationally ranked opponents highlighted the opening weeks of competition as the 2026-27 Fairfield Athletics season gets officially underway. Four teams of Stags began competition in August with more to follow in the coming weeks.
Women’s Soccer
The Fairfield Women’s Soccer program was selected as the preseason favorite in the Metro Conference, following back-to-back regular season championships. The Stags are 2-2-1 thus far in 2026 with wins over UMass Lowell and Boston University as well as a scoreless draw with Big Ten foe Rutgers. Fairfield also made a mid-August trek to North Carolina to open 2026 against the #8 nationally ranked Tar Heels.
Men’s Soccer
Selected fourth in the Metro Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll, Fairfield Men’s Soccer has already tallied a statement win in 2026. After a last-second setback at #17 Marshall, the Stags took an in-state trip to Storrs and knocked off the host UConn Huskies, 1-0. Cristiano Carlos ’30 scored the lone goal of the match on his way to Metro Rookie of the Week honors.
Volleyball
Another team of road warriors to start 2026, the Fairfield Volleyball program began its campaign with three matches in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Stags picked up their first-ever win against perennial Patriot League contender Colgate to highlight the weekend and turned strong showings against Ohio Valley favorite Morehead State and the #22 nationally ranked Tennessee Lady Vols. Fairfield has won three straight conference championships and was selected by the Metro Conference as the preseason favorite this fall. Mamie Krubally ’27 was chosen as the Metro’s Preseason Player of the Year.
Field Hockey
Fairfield Field Hockey began its first season in the Coastal Athletic Association with a pair of home games on University Field. In last Friday’s season opener, the Stags struck first but were denied the upset bid by #9 Syracuse, 2-1. Fairfield responded on Sunday in resounding fashion with a 4-0 shutout of Holy Cross. Entering a new conference after back-to-back NEC Championships, the Stags were selected third in the CAA Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
Men’s and Women’s Cross Country
Fairfield Men’s and Women’s Cross Country programs are set to enter the fold this Friday, Sept. 4 at the Marist Season Opener, with Men’s and Women’s Golf and Tennis all slated to begin competition later in the month.
