Overview

College Corps LogoAs part of a statewide effort to promote summer enrichment opportunities for students in grades K-12 who have had their school years significantly disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, the AccelerateCT task force is recruiting up to 500 Corps members to serve in the College Corps CT Summer Program during the 2021 summer season. All undergraduate college students who attend Connecticut colleges and universities are eligible to apply, including Class of 2021 graduating seniors. Connecticut residents who attend college out of state are also eligible.

Corps members will receive one week of specialized training prior to being matched with summer enrichment programs throughout the state. They will work for seven weeks supporting summer programs to provide joyful, stimulating experiences and to mitigate school disengagement for youth. Corps members will participate in weekly cohort meetings with team leaders and mentors who will provide ongoing guidance, resources, and support. All Corps members who complete the program requirements will receive up to $4,500.00 in a stipend.

The summer 2021 application is closed and Corps Members have completed their training.

Programming

Corps members will engage with K-12 students to take part in enrichment activities and purposeful play that include but are not limited to:

Sports, physical activity, and physical education, Music, visual, and performing arts, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEAM) activities, Field trips, Career and college exploration, Cooking, food, and nutrition programming, Outdoor education and activities.

Criteria to Apply

Applicants should be undergraduate college students who attend Connecticut colleges and universities including Class of 2021 graduating seniors or Connecticut residents who attend college out of state.

Frequently Asked Questions

Any current college student is eligible to apply to the College Corps pending a background check. Incoming college freshmen can apply and their qualifications will be reviewed on a case by case basis. 

Eight weeks. That includes one online training week and seven weeks in-person. The training week will starts June 14, 2021.

The hours can vary depending on the placement. This is something to be discussed between the applicant and the placement administrators. Corps members can plan on working a full work week although the actual scheduling may be flexible. 

Activities can vary depending on the placement site. Possible activities may include: play learning, STEAM activities, sports, arts, team building, cooking, and other enrichment activities. Activities will be designed to be a fun and rewarding experience for everyone involved!

This will be an in-person experience. The one-week training will be online.
