Most Reverend Mark J. Seitz, Sixth Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of El Paso, Texas

The Most Reverend Mark J. Seitz, is the Sixth Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of El Paso, Texas, and chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on Migration.

Amid challenging circumstances faced by numerous vulnerable individuals at the U.S.-Mexico border, Bishop Seitz aims to shed light on the imperative role of the Church.

Most Reverend Mark J. Seitz, the Sixth Bishop of El Paso, Texas, and chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on Migration, will deliver a lecture titled "Immigration: The American Story" on Monday, March 18, 2024. The lecture is scheduled to commence at 7 p.m. in Fairfield University's Dolan School of Business Event Hall. Free and open to the public, registration is required for this event, due to limited seating.

In light of the challenging circumstances faced by numerous vulnerable individuals at the U.S.-Mexico border, Bishop Seitz aims to emphasize the Church's place as witness and guarantor of the obligation to uphold human dignity. He will underscore the role that Christian hospitality must play in revitalizing America's identity as a nation built primarily by those who have immigrated.

This lecture marks the beginning of a collaboration between America Media and Fairfield University's College of Arts and Sciences. The partnership is an expression of the Ignatian charism shared by both, and will explore common goals and interests in light of the global influence and social role of the Catholic Church.

"We are honored to host Bishop Seitz and to inaugurate this partnership with such a timely and critical topic," said Richard Greenwald, PhD, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Fairfield.

The partnership will bring America Media’s resources for Catholic discussion, news, analysis, and faith-filled insight into conversation with Fairfield University’s College of Arts and Sciences, home to world-class scholars and a showcase for the arts, media, and communication.

Through several joint ventures – the annual public lecture, the availability of the resources of America Media to all Fairfield University students, faculty, and staff, and projects envisioned between America’s digital team and Fairfield University’s Media Institute – this partnership will enhance the visibility and reach of both institutions as they carry forward, in distinctive ways, the mission of the Society of Jesus.
