The Fairfield University Field Hockey program rewrote the history books this season, claiming their second consecutive NEC Championship, entering the national rankings, and going on to win an NCAA postseason game for only the second time in program history.

The Stags’ NEC Championship was their second straight and fourth in seven seasons as a member of the conference. This year’s crown was captured at home on University Field for the first time, as Fairfield hosted and defeated Wagner, 3-0, in the finals on Saturday, Nov. 8. The Stags also won their fourth NEC Regular Season Championship with a 9-0 league mark.

After bringing home the conference crown and securing an NCAA postseason bid, the Stags entered the NFHCA Coaches’ Poll at #20 in the nation—their first time on the national ledger since 2019.

The Stags’ NCAA draw sent them to Princeton for a First Round meeting with Patriot League Champion Boston University. Rylee LaLoup accounted for the game’s only goal and Payton Rahn ’26 turned away all four Terriers shots she faced, to secure a 1-0 victory for Fairfield to advance to the NCAA Second Round for the second time in program history.

With the second-seeded and #3 nationally ranked Princeton Tigers standing across the field, the Stags were undeterred and played to an even 1-1 draw with the hosts for more than 20 minutes as NEC Defensive Player of the Year Pilar Mengotti ’26 earned the Fairfield goal off an assist from NEC Midfielder of the Year Catalina Ness ’27. However, the Tigers netted a second tally in the 25th minute and later tacked on an empty net goal to close out a 3-1 final.

"I am super proud of this team. We showed up on the national stage and showed that we belong here,” said Head Coach Laura Gebhart, the 2025 NEC Coach of the Year in her first campaign leading the Stags.

Fairfield Field Hockey concluded the 2025 season with an overall record of 16-6. In addition to their perfect run through the NEC and landmark NCAA victory over BU, the Stags also collected wins over Villanova, Lehigh, Hofstra, and Vermont over the course of the fall season.
