Fairfield University Women’s Lacrosse provided an emphatic opening to the 2024 home schedule last week, defeating the first two nationally ranked opponents in program history. The Stags dispatched #24 UConn and #23 UAlbany in back-to-back outings on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium.

The latter win over the Great Danes was also the 93rd for Head Coach Laura Field, moving her past her predecessor Mike Waldvogel as the program’s all-time wins leader. Coach Field is 93-46 in nine seasons, leading the Stags with five MAAC Championships to her name. A National Lacrosse Hall of Famer, Waldvogel was head coach from 2008-2015, amassing a record of 92-35 with two conference titles. Field was an assistant and later associate head coach on Waldvogel’s staff beginning in 2009 until taking the helm in the 2016 campaign.

On the heels of last week’s victories, graduate students Elizabeth Talluto ’23 and Lindsey Barnes ’23 were recognized by the MAAC as Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. Talluto racked up a total of 10 points for the week, including six goals against Albany. Barnes quarterbacked a defense that conceded only 19 combined goals for the week, collecting 10 ground balls with four caused turnovers.

The women's lacrosse team returns to action this Saturday, Feb. 24 for a noon meeting with Hofstra. The Stags return to Rafferty Stadium on Wednesday, March 6 at 1 p.m. to host Vermont. Admission is free for all fans to all women’s lacrosse regular season home games this season.
