On Wednesday, June 24 at 4 p.m., sociology professor and alumnus Kurt C. Schlichting, PhD, the E. Gerald Corrigan ’63 Chair in Humanities and Social Sciences at Fairfield University, will take guests back to the Gilded Age of American history on a virtual journey from New York City to Newport, R.I. and Fairfield, Conn. in "A Gilded Age Tale."

"Gilded Age" is a term that describes the tumultuous years between the Civil War and the turn of the twentieth century. The great burst of industrial activity and corporate growth that characterized this period from the late 1870s until 1900 was presided over by a collection of colorful and energetic entrepreneurs who became known alternatively as "captains of industry" and "robber barons." In his engaging virtual presentation, Dr. Schlichting will highlight many of these tycoons, their social and economic impact on society, and how they influenced the development and character of New York City, Newport, and Fairfield, through the architecture of their time.

Register today. Registration does require login. For faculty, staff members, or parents who are not alumni and therefore do not have profiles within our Online Community, please register by emailing Patricia Perazzini at pperazzini@fairfield.edu.
