Nearly 80 percent of Fairfield student-athletes earned a GPA of 3.0 or better in the spring of 2019.
A total of 239 Fairfield University student-athletes have received academic plaudits for performance in the classroom during the 2018-19 academic year. Fairfield landed 211 student-athletes on the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Academic Honor Roll this past year, with 28 members of the Stags men’s lacrosse program earning a place on the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll.
To be eligible for the MAAC Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher as a member of an athletic program that competes in the MAAC. Fairfield’s 211 representatives on the list account for more than 57 percent of all eligible student-athletes.
The CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll recognizes CAA student-athletes who have achieved a GPA of 3.0 or better in the spring semester. The Stags' roster of 28 men’s lacrosse honorees includes 14 Dean's List students.
The MAAC and CAA announcements mark the latest nods in a banner academic year for the Stags. Previously, six Fairfield athletic programs were lauded by the NCAA with Public Recognition Awards: women's basketball, men's golf, women's lacrosse, softball, and men's and women's tennis. All six teams posted an Academic Progress Rate of 1000 in the most recent NCAA report.
In total, nearly 80 percent of Stags achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the spring 2019 semester. That tally includes 193 student-athletes – more than 43 percent – to earn a place on the Fairfield University Dean's List with a 3.5 GPA or higher. Topping that list are 27 Stags with perfect 4.0 semester GPAs.
