Library Services First Year Students

Personal Librarian Program

In partnership with the cornerstone program, the DiMenna-Nyselius Library pairs each first-year student with a personal librarian. The goal of the Personal Librarian Program is to introduce first-years to the collections and services of the DiMenna-Nyselius Library, and to be a touchpoint of support for each and every student within the library. Students receive about 8-10 emails during their first year from their assigned librarian with research tips, library news, and more.

Personal librarians are automatically assigned by cornerstone courses and will get in touch with faculty at the beginning of the fall semester. Faculty are encouraged to add the personal librarian’s contact information to their syllabi and in Blackboard. Faculty may wish to schedule a classroom visit towards the beginning of the semester so as to make a face-to-face connection with students. In addition, library instructions sessions can be requested.

All new transfer students are also assigned a personal librarian for their first year at Fairfield.
