The right-hander struck out 15 batters in six shutout innings of relief for the Stags
Colin McVeigh ’24 of Fairfield University Baseball has been named a Collegiate Baseball Newspaper National Player of the Week, as announced by the organization on Monday. McVeigh took the mound in three victories for the Stags last week, amassing 15 strikeouts in six shutout innings of relief.
McVeigh, who scattered just three singles in his six inning of work, tossed a scoreless frame in a midweek triumph over Central Connecticut State, then came on to get the save in two of Fairfield’s three wins in a weekend sweep of visiting MAAC foe Niagara. On the season, McVeigh has struck out 38 batters in 28.1 frames of action, ranking second in the MAAC with 12.07 strikeouts per nine innings.
Also named the MAAC Pitcher of the Week for his effort, McVeigh’s performance was a part of a 5-0 week for the Stags. In total, the Stags are winners of seven consecutive games heading into a three-game MAAC series at defending league champion Rider. Action returns to campus next Tuesday, April 12 for a 3 p.m. first pitch against crosstown foe Sacred Heart.
