Fairfield University students will launch the new semester by getting close and personal with Grammy Award-winning rapper and songwriter, Macklemore.

On Thursday, January 28 at 8 p.m., Fairfield University will host an interactive virtual question and answer session with chart-topping, Grammy Award-winning rapper and songwriter Macklemore, during which he will discuss his career and his dedication to social justice. “A Conversation with Macklemore” is free and open to Fairfield University students, faculty, and staff, and will be delivered in a virtual format.

A native of Seattle, Washington, Macklemore launched onto the music scene as part of the hip hop duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Macklemore is best known for his collaboration with Lewis on the hit singles "Thrift Shop," "My Oh My," "Can't Hold Us," and "Same Love" (featuring Mary Lambert). "Thrift Shop" reached No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 2013. As a solo artist, Macklemore released the Open Your Eyes EP (2000), The Unplanned Mixtape (2009), his first full-length album, The Language of My World (2005), and his second solo studio album, Gemini, in September 2017.
