Fairfield University Board of Trustees Welcomes New Members

The new members were elected at the May 2020 meeting to serve on the Board of Trustees.

The Board of Trustees of Fairfield University recently announced the appointment of three new members: Thomas J. Fanning Sr. '78, P'10,’06, founder and managing member of Heritage Strategies, LLC, and co-founder and co-managing member of TriState Q.S.R. LLC.; Kristin (Dodge) McMahon '87, P’21,’20, senior vice president, Global Risk Solutions, North America for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company/Ironshore Inc.; and Phillip J. Neugebauer ’91, an executive vice president at PIMCO.

Thomas J. Fanning Sr. ‘78, P’10,’06

Thomas J. Fanning Sr. is founder and managing member of Heritage Strategies LLC. Heritage Strategies LLC is one of 144 owner/member firms of M Financial Group, one of the nation’s leading financial services institutions. Fanning is also co-founder and co-managing member of TriState Q.S.R. LLC. In 2018, TriState acquired the development and franchise rights to the PDQ restaurant chain, for the majority of the greater New York City metropolitan area. In addition, Fanning was a founding director and on the executive committee of Gold Coast Bank. Gold Coast Bank was acquired by Investors Bank in April of 2020, and Fanning now serves on the Investors Bank advisory board. Since 2015, Fanning has been vice chairman of the Foundation Board of St. Francis Hospital.

Kristin (Dodge) McMahon ’87, P’21,’20

Kristin (Dodge) McMahon is a senior vice president for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company/Ironshore, Inc., and is responsible for oversight of the claims function across all specialty product lines including healthcare, professional liability, environmental, reps and warranty, regulatory, and Liberty Canada. McMahon has been part of the Ironshore team since 2008 and has held a number of positions. She has served as president of U.S. Liability and Regulatory Products of IronHealth, the specialty healthcare unit of Ironshore, Inc., where she served on the executive management committee, involved in all major policy-making decisions related to production, strategy, product development, and risk management. 

Prior to joining Ironshore, McMahon was a practicing attorney for 18 years and a partner at a Chicago-based law firm, where she assisted numerous insurers and reinsurers with developing programs for professional liability lines and claims management strategies. Ms. McMahon has published numerous articles and has spoken at national conferences on an array of insurance-related issues. She graduated cum laude from Fairfield University with a BS in mathematics in 1987, and obtained her juris doctor from Boston University’s School of Law in 1990, where she was an Edward Hennessey scholar.

Phillip J. Neugebauer ’91

Phillip J. Neugebauer is an executive vice president at PIMCO, with more than 30 years of investment experience. As a member of the leadership team for PIMCO’s U.S. global wealth management business, Neugebauer oversees strategic planning, tactics and analytics, as well as financial budgeting and forecasting. Neugebauer is also a member of PIMCO’s global risk committee and brand council, and is a frequent speaker at client and industry events. Prior to returning to PIMCO in 2010, Neugebauer was managing director and head of product management, marketing and affiliate relationships for Allianz Global Investors. He was also a member of the firm's executive committee. Before first joining PIMCO in 1993, Neugebauer was employed at Merrill Lynch. He earned a BS degree in finance from Fairfield University in 1991. Neugebauer also serves on the board of trustees for Wake Forest University School of Business.
