On Saturday, February 22, 2020, Fairfield University’s Student Alumni Association (SAA) hosted the Council for Advancement & Support of Education: Affiliated Student Advancement Programs (CASE ASAP) District 1 Conference on campus, welcoming students and staff from 16 other institutions to Stag Country. During the event, the SAA earned two District 1 Awards that they’ll now compete for nationally.

During the CASE ASAP District 1 Conference, more than 150 students and professional staff advisers representing 16 colleges and universities and one high school visited Fairfield’s campus: Albertus Magnus College, Bryant University, Catholic High School, Clark University, Keene State College, Landmark College, Lasell University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northeastern University, Sacred Heart University, Stonehill College, University of Connecticut, University of Massachusetts-Amherst, University of Rhode Island, University of Vermont, and Worcester Polytechnic University. The Conference gives attendees the chance to learn program ideas and best practices from representatives of other institutions and high schools in New England. “Being able to host the District 1 Conference was a great way to end my time with SAA and at Fairfield. I have attended a total of six conferences over my four years and it was truly amazing to host,” said CASE ASAP District 1 Conference co-chair Marissa Fitzgerald ’20.

Fairfield’s SAA is also celebrating their win of two District 1 awards during the Conference. This year, the SAA was one of three organizations in their district to win an Outstanding Organization Award, and Marissa Fitzgerald ’20 was one of three students to win an Outstanding Student Leader Award. The SAA will now go on to compete for the national awards which will be announced at the Conference for Student Advancement in Orlando in August 2020. These recent wins for the SAA increase their overall total of CASE ASAP awards earned to 14 District 1 awards and two National awards.
