#25 Fairfield defeated #23 American on Wednesday for the first NCAA postseason win in program history.
Fairfield University Field Hockey earned the first NCAA postseason win in program history on Wednesday, defeating #23 American, 3-1, on University Field. The Northeast Conference Champion Stags, currently ranked #25 in the nation, are 19-2 on the season and are riding a 12-game winning streak.
"Winning a game in the NCAA tournament was on our preseason checklist," said Head Coach Jackie Kane ’87. "It's been a goal of ours from the start. All season long, this team has surprised me with their work ethic and their dedication to each other. They believe in themselves and they believe in this team. That's what has made this season so special for me."
Wednesday’s victory sends the Stags into the First Round of the NCAA Championship, traveling to Storrs, Conn. to challenge the #2 UConn Huskies today – Friday, Nov. 15 – at noon. The five-time national champion Huskies are 18-3 on the season after winning both the Big East Regular Season and Tournament Championships to earn the nation’s second overall seed.

The winner of Friday’s game will challenge either #13 Syracuse or #9 Princeton in Storrs on Sunday, Nov. 17 with a trip to the 2019 Final Four on the line.
