Following a critically acclaimed, sold-out run at Feinstein’s/54 Below in New York City, screen and stage actress Joanna Gleason will perform her new one-woman show, Out of the Eclipse, at Fairfield’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts on Friday, November 8, 2019 at 7 p.m.
Gleason's performance as the Baker’s Wife in the original Broadway production of Into the Woods won her a 1988 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. She has also made a name for herself in films such as The Wedding Planner, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and Boogie Nights.
Her latest cabaret-style show, Out of The Eclipse, is a deeply personal and meaningful mash-up of song, humorous stories, and touching insights, written after a dark period in her life when she lost both of her parents within a four-month period in 2017.
In collaboration with arranger and music director Jeffrey Klitz, Out of The Eclipse explores how funny, magical moments of Gleason’s life were like little bits of stardust that illuminated a path forward after her loss.
From a Yiddish lullaby to the music of James Taylor, Rodgers & Hart, Paul Simon, and Steven Sondheim, songs are artfully integrated into the performance. Gleason will be accompanied by the Moontones, featuring the harmonies of Michael Protacio, Christine Cornell, and Christiana Cole. Jeffrey Klitz will be on piano, Katherine Spingarn on cello, Justin Rothberg on a variety of stringed instruments, and Shane DelRobles on percussion.
This special, one-night-only Fairfield, Connecticut performance of Out of the Eclipse is generously sponsored by Sontag Advisory, Silverman Group, Abbey Tent & Party Rentals, and Fairfield Magazine.
