One night only at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts, the Russian National Ballet Theatre will present a critically acclaimed performance of the Tchaikovsky classic.

On Friday, March 29, 2019 at 8:00 p.m., the esteemed Russian National Ballet Theatre will perform one of the most magical and well-known works of classical ballet, Swan Lake, at Fairfield University’s Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts.

Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake has been captivating audiences since its premiere at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1877. The scenario is fashioned from folk tales and tells the love story of Odette, a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer's curse, and the prince who yearns to set her free.

With Tchaikovsky’s timeless score, majestic choreography by Marius Petipa, and exquisite costuming and set design, Swan Lake continues to earn the adoration of classical dance enthusiasts while also winning over new fans to ballet.

The Russian National Ballet Theatre has been transporting timeless ballet classics to the stages of North America since 1999. Founded in Moscow during the transitional period of Perestroika in the late 1980s, the dance company used its newfound creative freedom to invigorate the tradition of Russian ballet with new developments in dance from around the world.

In 1994, legendary Bolshoi principal dancer Elena Radchenko was selected by presidential decree to assume the first permanent artistic directorship of the company. Ms. Radchenko, founder of the Russian National Ballet Theatre, is focused on upholding the grand, national tradition of the major Russian ballet works and developing new talents throughout Russia. The company delivers a repertory of the world’s most beloved classical ballets, which continue to enlighten, inspire, and entertain audience across the globe.
