Hansen '21 and Coach Bruno earn major individual awards
Fairfield Women’s Swimming and Diving won its second consecutive MAAC Championship with a dominant performance this weekend in Buffalo. The Stags were led by Morgan Hansen ’21, the 2019 Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet. In addition, Head Coach Anthony Bruno was selected by his peers as the 2019 MAAC Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
"This is what we work for. This how we train,” said Bruno. “We feel that our training environment gives us a competitive edge. These women work really hard and they earned it. They earn it every day in the pool.”
Hansen won three individual gold medals, setting a new MAAC record in the 100y butterfly, and was a part of two winning relay teams. Maria Nitti ’21 and Sara Ostensen ’21 also both won multiple individual gold medals. In total, the Stags won 13 gold medals and 25 total medals. Fairfield placed multiple swimmers on the podium in eight different events, and all 19 student-athletes to hit the pool for the Stags this weekend contributed points to the final team score.
