MFA Program brings award-winning authors Phil Klay and Matt Gallagher to Austin for public writing workshop and literary event.
Fairfield University’s will host its Spring 2026 Writers Colloquium on Saturday, March 7 at its Austin campus, located at 7951 Shoal Creek Blvd., Third Floor, Austin, Texas. The full-day workshop is open to the public, and advance registration is required.
Fairfield University’s MFA in Creative Writing Program invites writers, readers and literary enthusiasts to the Spring 2026 Writers Colloquium, for a full day of readings, discussion, and hands-on writing workshops.

Workshop Theme: “Writing Soul in a Broken World”
Hosted by MFA faculty Phil Klay and Matt Gallagher, the Spring 2026 Writers Colloquium will offer an immersive experience rooted in craft, conversation, and community. Participants will engage in readings and discussions, connect with MFA faculty, and take part in generative writing workshops designed to explore shared themes in an intimate, collaborative setting. Coffee, lunch, and a closing reception will be provided.

Phil Klay
Phil Klay is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and National Book Award–winning author of Redeployment. His novel Missionaries was named a top book of 2020 by The Wall Street Journal and former President Barack Obama. His essays and journalism have appeared in major outlets including The New York Times, The Atlantic, and The New Yorker. He teaches fiction at Fairfield University, and his essay collection Uncertain Ground was published by Penguin Press in 2022.
Matt Gallagher
Matt Gallagher is the author of four books, including the novels Daybreak and Youngblood, a finalist for the Dayton Literary Peace Prize. He’s also covered the ongoing conflict in Ukraine as a correspondent for Esquire and Arrowsmith Journal. A U.S. Army veteran, Gallagher teaches in the Fairfield University MFA program.
