The Lucy Katz Dialogue & Resolution Program
On May 2, faculty, staff, and students gathered together at a reception to honor Professor Lucy Katz and announce the naming of The Lucy Katz Dialogue & Resolution Program. This program includes the student Peer Mediation Program and Conflict Resolution Consortium that Lucy pioneered at Fairfield University.
Lucy Katz left an indelible imprint on the Fairfield University community. Her creation, along with Dr. Thomas Pelligrino, of the student peer mediation program five years ago provides mediation training and certification for students who go on to serve their peers and the University. Over the years, dozens of students have been trained and served in this important and unique role.
Lucy was also a strong advocate for principled and collegial dispute resolution among all members of the University community. She excelled as a teacher, a listener, and a mediator.
“The naming of this program is a fitting and appropriate legacy for such an extraordinary colleague, mentor, and friend to Fairfield University” commented Pellegrino.
A plaque commemorating the naming of the program was presented at the reception to Lucy's husband, Dr. Alan Katz, Professor Emeritus in the Politics Department.

Conflict Resolution Consortium Timeline
2007-08: Fairfield University Conflict Resolution Consortium (CRC) organized by Lucy Katz and Tom Pellegrino as a three-year pilot.
2008-09: CRCs first full year of operation, including training the first cohort of 23 student peer mediators in January 2009.
2009: Lucy creates training module for Resident Assistants (RAs) and facilitates summer training session. This is now an annual component of all RA (as well as New Student Leader) training at Fairfield University.
2010-11: Marsha Alibrandi and Kamala Kiem named co-directors of the CRC.
2010-11: Peer Mediation Club for students is started.
2011-12: Stag Explorer program created for first time conduct code violations. Students meet with peer mediators in lieu of formal action in the Dean of Students office.
2012-13: Social justice mediation model adopted for peer mediation training. Record number of students and staff trained during four-day session in January 2013.
