More than 20 years ago, the esteemed Rev. John M. Conlisk Scholarship was established to improve employment prospects for Irish business students. It covers the Dolan School of Business's annual tuition, accommodations, books, and health insurance.

A graduate of Ireland's University of Limerick, Evan Mansfield has embarked on the Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) program at Fairfield University’s Charles F. Dolan School of Business, supported by the prestigious Conlisk Scholarship. Mansfield, a 22-year-old from Ballinameela, a rural parish just outside Dungarvan, Ireland, has made remarkable strides in both his academic and personal life, defying expectations to pursue a future in business and analytics.

“The Conlisk Scholarship has broadened my possibilities in life by providing me with the opportunity to engage with Dolan’s amazing network and challenge myself with new learning opportunities that would have never been available to me otherwise,” said Mansfield.

Growing up with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Mansfield faced challenges, including developmental delays in speech. “Despite these challenges, I overcame all odds and made it to mainstream education," he said. "I defied the expectations anyone has ever had of me — becoming the first member of my family to graduate with a bachelor's — and received numerous awards from the University of Limerick, while helping other people along the way through over 400 hours of volunteering.”

Mansfield’s work ethic and passion for education have set him up for success as he explores the field of analytics.

Better Each Day

In his personal life, Mansfield said he strives to be “one percent better each day” and holds passions for fitness, health, and sports. As he immerses into the Fairfield community, he seeks to take advantage of experiential learning opportunities while enjoying Gaelic football.

“I am looking forward to gaining not only technical skills but applying these skills to real-world problems," said Mansfield.  “Combined with the support of Fairfield Dolan’s professional network, this opportunity will provide me with all the tools to take on leadership positions where I can create real change via data-driven solutions.”

As Mansfield continues to pursue his goals, both personally and academically, he remains dedicated to helping others, embodying a spirit of leadership and community service while remaining steadfast in pursuit of his MBA at Fairfield Dolan.
