Zanny Minton Beddoes, the first female editor-in-chief of The Economist, shared key trends in the world economy with Fairfield Dolan students.

Zanny Minton Beddoes, the first female editor-in-chief of The Economist, presented an Open VISIONS Forum at the Quick Center on September 27, and also visited department chair and professor of finance Katsiaryna Salavei Bardos’ Financial Management class, where she held a dynamic conversation regarding the evolving world economy.

The conversation led by Minton Beddoes spanned a range of topics, including reasons for high economic inequality around the world, and the rise in artificial intelligence and its potential effect on the workplace of the future. She also provided insights on the development of financial technology and cryptocurrencies, the future of the Chinese economy and the global implications, the dynamics and implications of remote vs. in-person work, and the difficulty of maintaining a work-life balance.

“The discussion's applicability to what students are currently studying at Dolan goes beyond just reinforcing course content," reflected Professor Bardos. "It offers a bridge between academic knowledge and the ever-changing, complex, and dynamic real-world scenarios they will encounter in their future careers."

Professor Bardos reported that the discussion between her students and such a prominent figure in the world of economic and political journalism was an “enlightening event” and provided her students an opportunity to engage with a “distinguished intellectual in the field of economics and global affairs, which underscores Dolan’s commitment to providing a well-rounded and dynamic education experience.”
