Stags Celebrate 2022-23 Season at Athletics Awards Ceremony

Thirteen student-athletes received major awards.

The annual Fairfield Athletics Awards Ceremony was held this past Wednesday evening at Leo D. Mahoney Arena, celebrating the 2022-23 academic and athletics season. Thirteen Stags received major department awards as a part of the proceedings.

The Men’s Athlete of the Year award was shared by Charlie Pagliarini ’23 (baseball) and Killian McGinley ’23 (men’s golf). Women’s Athlete of the Year was also a shared honor between Caroline Mangan ’22 (women’s lacrosse) and Erini Pappas ’24 (women’s swimming and diving).

First-year standouts Matt Bucciero ’26 (baseball) and Will Consoli ’26 (men’s lacrosse) were named Men’s Rookies of the Year, and Maddy Theriault ’23 (women’s soccer) was selected as Women’s Rookie of the Year.

For their dedication outside of competition, Brady Stergion ’23 from men’s rowing and Aina March ’22 from women’s tennis were named the Alumni Association Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

Danielle Grosso ’23 (women’s cross country) and Nya Jones ’23 (volleyball) were recognized as co-winners of the William Wallin Memorial Award for “sportsmanship, character, and leadership on and off the field.”

Finally, Vice President for Athletics Paul Schlickmann presented the Athletics Director Awards to Olivia Homan ’23 (women’s soccer) and Ellie Grefenstette ’22 (women’s lacrosse).

In addition to the individual awards, Fairfield Athletics recognized its 165 seniors and graduate students for their dedication throughout their Stags careers.
