The Stags tied for the team title at the Hartford Women's Invitational.

The junior bested a 59-golfer field at the two-day event.

Sydney Nethercott ‘24 turned in a dominant performance on Monday, Oct. 3, at Wintonbury Hills Golf Course in Bloomfield, Conn., leading the field by five strokes after Round 1 of the Hartford Women’s Invitational. Nethercott maintained her edge through harsh weather in Tuesday’s final round to claim individual medalist honors and lead Fairfield Women’s Golf to a share of the team title.

"I am extremely proud of the team and how they battled these past few days," said director of Fairfield Golf Doug Holub. "Fighting illness and the weather, they showed the strength that I always knew they had in them. This win is a product of consistent effort and will, as they continue to push us toward accomplishing the goals that we have set for our program."

In the team standings, the Stags overcame a two-stroke deficit after Round 1, surging on Tuesday to tie Merrimack atop the final leaderboard. Fairfield bested opposition from Albany, Hartford, Bryant, Siena, Hofstra, Stonehill, and Assumption at the 36-hole tournament.

Nethercott was one of four Stags among the top 25 on the individual leaderboard. Addy Douglas ’23 finished ninth overall in the 59-golfer field, with Grace Kryscio ’24 and graduate student Julia Towne sharing 19th place on the ledger.

Fairfield Women’s Golf is back in action on Oct. 10-11 for the Quinnipiac Classic in Wallingford.
