The Fairfield women's basketball team raised the 2022 MAAC Championship trophy in Atlantic City.

Basketball season tips off on Monday, Nov. 7.

The Fairfield University men’s and women’s basketball teams totaled four preseason honors from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), as voted upon by the league’s head coaches and announced on Tuesday, Oct. 18. The season for both programs tips off on Monday, Nov. 7.

Fairfield Women’s Basketball – the reigning MAAC Champion – was selected to finish fourth in the MAAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Callie Cavanaugh ’21 was voted to the All-MAAC Second Team and Andrea Hernangómez ’22 collected Third Team honors. Cavanaugh and Hernangómez were the starting frontcourt for last season’s squad that won 25 games en route to the program’s first MAAC Championship since 1998 and first NCAA appearance since 2001.

The Stags will begin their first season led by Head Coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis on Nov. 7 at Brown. They will do the honors as the first team to play in the new on-campus Leo D. Mahoney Arena on Friday, Nov. 18 against Stonehill followed by a Sunday, Nov. 20 visit from 2022 Elite Eight team Michigan.

Tabbed for fifth in the MAAC Preseason Poll, Fairfield Men’s Basketball was represented by Supreme Cook ’24 on the All-MAAC First Team and Jake Wojcik ’23 on the All-MAAC Third Team. Cook averaged 10.1 points and ranked second in the MAAC – and first among returners – with 8.3 rebounds per contest last season. Wojcik netted 9.5 points per game, burying a team-high 60 three-pointers.

Head Coach Jay Young’s fourth season at the helm begins on Nov. 7 at Wake Forest. The Stags will play their first eight outings away from home before making their debut inside Mahoney Arena on Saturday, Dec. 3 against defending MAAC Champion Saint Peter’s to kick off a run of eight straight home games.
