Johnson was the MAAC Player of the Year for the conference champion Stags.
KJ Johnson '23 as been named an AVCA All-America Honorable Mention, as announced on Wednesday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Johnson is the first All-America selection in Fairfield University Volleyball history.
"For all that she has accomplished and all that she has meant to our team this season, it is fitting and truly well-deserved for KJ to be the first-ever All-American in Fairfield Volleyball history," said Head Coach Todd Kress. "Her name and her numbers this fall absolutely belong alongside the best in the nation, and I'm excited to see what she can achieve going forward with another year of hard work and experience."
Also an AVCA All-East Coast Region selection and the 2021 MAAC Player of the Year, Johnson led the MAAC and currently ranks 10th nationally with 4.75 kills per set. That number also slots fourth in a single-season in program history and the highest in the rally scoring era. Johnson's 480 total kills this fall rank tied for seventh in Fairfield history.
With a .305 hitting percentage, Johnson was the only pin hitter in the MAAC to hit above .300 and one of only two players in the nation to hit better than .300 while taking more than 1,000 swings. Defensively, Johnson averaged 2.42 digs per set en route to 11 double-doubles and had a hand in 68 blocks. She filled out her statline with 19 service aces.
Johnson was also previously tabbed as MAAC Championship MVP after averaging 4.33 kills and 2.83 digs per set in the Stags' three-match run to the 12th conference title in program history. The Stags finished the season at 24-9, drawing #14 UCLA in the NCAA Championship First Round and pushing the Bruins to the limit in a 3-0 loss at Pauley Pavilion by razor-thin set scores of 29-27, 25-23 and 26-24.
In addition to her All-America Honorable Mention, Johnson is only the second AVCA All-Region selection in Fairfield and MAAC history alongside Fairfield Athletics Hall of Famer Joanne Saunders '02.
