Open to all students, faculty, and staff with permission to access campus: enjoy a series of spiritual activities, wellness booths, outdoor fitness classes, food trucks, giveaways, and more.
Fairfield University and the Health & Wellness Committee are pleased to announce Wellness Day will take place on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 from 1-5 p.m. Events during Wellness Day will highlight the University’s commitment to the health of the whole person — mind, body, and spirit — a cornerstone of Jesuit values. All programming for this event will be held in the Barone Campus Center Traffic Circle. Wellness Day is part of the Wellness Wednesday initiative through the Health & Wellness Committee.
“Our hope is to have all members of our community focus on well-being by getting outside to enjoy nature, participate in activities that foster wellness, enjoy healthy treats, and listen to some great live music,” said Associate Vice President of Health & Wellness Susan Birge, EdD. “Not only will there be lots of activities and programs, but we encourage everyone to have some quiet, reflective time in the many beautiful areas of campus. We’ll come together in a safe manner to commit to self-care and our priority of health and wellness.”
From fitness, sports, and nutrition to meditation and a mini pet palooza; from wellness booths to spiritual activities — an assortment of campus partners will present their services, wellness products, apparel, and equipment, to promote healthy living for all ages.
Fitness class demonstrations — yoga, spin, and hip-hop aerobics — by the University’s RecPlex instructors will take place outdoors, plus healthcare screenings, a virtual 5K, live music, grab-and-go healthy snacks, smoothie station in the Tully, food trucks, and mindful walks will take place over the course of the day. Additionally, radio station Star 99.9 and the Bigelow Tea booth will be at the event.
“Wellness Day is a great opportunity for our partners in Health & Wellness, from across the University, to come together in engaging the campus community, in activities that promote a healthy mind, body & spirit,” said Director of Recreation and Wellness Eli Olken-Dann.
