Fairfield’s Career Center is offering four industry-specific opportunities in September and October for students to connect virtually with employers.
This semester's virtual career fairs will connect students directly with organizations from the comfort of their home or residence hall, via smartphone, laptop, or tablet. This is a great chance to meet employers, practice networking, and learn about the wide range of internship and employment opportunities available to Fairfield University students. The virtual fairs are open all undergraduate and graduate students. Registration is required.
"Early this summer, when the University Career Center determined that recruiting would be conducted virtually this fall, we commenced a search for an effective virtual career fair platform to ensure that our students would still have excellent opportunities to connect with employers regarding career opportunities. We are so pleased to offer four industry-specific career and internship fairs that will benefit a wide array of employers, and most importantly, provide job and internship opportunities for students of all class years and majors," said Deirdre Bennett, employer engagement manager at the Career Center.
The fairs will be hosted on Brazen, a virtual event platform that allows students engage with employers and learn about internship and full-time job opportunities. After signing in, students will be able to explore opportunities and participate in one-on-one chats with participating employers. Student are encouraged to watch a quick video about how Brazen works.
Here are a few tips for students planning to attend:
- Students should update their résumés and have them ready to upload into the Brazen platform. Students can meet with their school’s career counselors for assistance with their résumés.
- It is important to register in Brazen in advance of the fair. It is an easy, quick registration process.
- Watch the tutorial video and read the tips on successfully attending the fair in Brazen.
- Check Brazen regularly to see which employers are registered to attend.
- Develop a list of employers you’d like to meet, in the order you would like to meet them. Tip: don’t go to your number one choice first. Do some research about the company and have some questions prepared.
- Develop a quick pitch that describes who you are, what you are interested in, and what you would like to do.
- Decide in advance what professional outfit you will wear. Set yourself up in a quiet room with good lighting.
