Fairfield welcomed the second-largest first-year class in its history — and returning upperclassmen — to campus during Move-In Week.
Campus was "painted red" in a sea of balloons and welcome banners as a giant inflatable Lucas welcomed students —new and returning — to Stag Country this past week.
More than 300 volunteers, including staff from across the University and student leaders, assisted in this effort over a five-day period. Once arriving students passed their individual Covid-19 tests to move in, they were on their way to setting up their new living spaces in the campus townhouses, apartments, and residence halls.
“The week-long process of welcoming our students back after so many months away was a joyous occasion. With the help of student leaders and University staff, we were able to create a safe environment for students and families to move their belongings into their rooms and get ready for classes on September 1,” said Vice President of Student Life Karen Donoghue ’03.
During Move-In Week, students were treated to a variety of food trucks and socially distanced activities in the Quad. From sunset yoga at Bellarmine, to virtual trivia night, to movie night and e-gaming — there were entertaining activities to help just about every student get acclimated.
The health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and community is our priority as we continue operations during the Covid-19 pandemic. To ensure that our Stags remain safe and healthy throughout the fall semester, Fairfield has developed an integrated protective approach that exceeds state requirements. From comprehensive testing of all students, faculty, and staff, to daily health monitoring and recurring sample testing, Fairfield’s Six Layers of Protection offers a well-rounded path forward for our community to continue to thrive. The plan also includes expert contact tracing, isolation and quarantining of symptomatic cases, and required face coverings and social distancing —ensuring best practices to keep our campus safe and our Stags home.
