As Fairfield University plans to bring its Stags home for the spring 2021 semester, a safe return to campus life is our utmost priority.
Fairfield University’s fall 2020 campus reopening plan has been largely successful to date as we have worked with State of Connecticut and Town of Fairfield Health Department officials to create and execute an effective plan to identify, contain, and limit the extent of Covid-19 infections.
A critical component of our approach has been continual random and targeted testing of our student population — both on campus and off — to find and isolate Covid-19 cases in order to protect not only our students, but our town of Fairfield neighbors. These extensive testing protocols are ongoing, with a significant increase in the number of individuals being tested. With a total of five rapid testing machines in partnership with Abbott Laboratories, along with daily health monitoring, contact tracing, isolation, and quarantine procedures, Fairfield University has exceeded state and local guidelines with proactive measures to keep our community at large safe and healthy.
As we approach the spring 2021 semester, we want to make sure you have all the information you need to remain an integral part of our campus life — whether you are a current student, an incoming student, a parent or guardian, a faculty or staff member, or in any way involved in the Fairfield University community — and to do so as safely as possible when campus life resumes.
The Spring 2021 semester will proceed as follows:
- A phased move-in process will begin no earlier than January 21, 2021. We will communicate to students the week of January 4 regarding specific move-in details.
- Classes will begin on Monday, January 25; all coursework will be virtual the first two weeks of the spring semester. In-person learning experiences will resume on Monday, February 8.
- To maximize the time and opportunity for engaged learning in the classroom, Fairfield will not observe the President’s Day holiday in February or the spring break week in March.
- Students will receive an Easter holiday and extended break from Thursday, April 1 through Tuesday, April 6.
- Undergraduate classes will end on Tuesday, May 4, and undergraduate final exams will conclude on Thursday, May 13. Commencement will take place on Saturday, May 22 and Sunday, May 23.
