Stags Rake in Five Weekly Awards

MAAC Offensive Player of the Week Matt McGlinchey '21

Student-Athletes Honored by MAAC, NEC

A total of five student-athletes representing Fairfield men’s soccer, women’s soccer, and field hockey earned weekly awards for their performances on the pitch. All three teams of Stags were undefeated in non-conference play this past week.

Matt McGlinchey ’21 was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week after playing a role in all three goals for Fairfield Men’s Soccer in a 1-0-1 week. McGlinchey converted the game-winning penalty kick in overtime as the Stags defeated host Saint Joseph’s and then assisted on both markers in a 2-2 draw on Lessing Field against America East powerhouse, Stony Brook.

Fairfield women’s soccer also recorded a 1-0-1 week and collected two weekly honors for their efforts. Nicole Stryjek ’21 netted a hat trick in the Stags’ 4-0 win over LIU on Lessing Field to take home MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Gena Pike ’23 protected the net for all 90 minutes of the shutout victory to claim MAAC Rookie of the Week laurels. Earlier in the week, the Stags played to a 1-1 draw at Penn – against a squad that won 13 matches last fall.

Fairfield field hockey extends its winning streak to three games with a pair of home triumphs last weekend – besting Vermont by a 2-1 count and putting together a 5-0 rout of Saint Francis. Danielle Profita ’21 totaled two goals and two assists, including the game-winner late in the fourth quarter against Vermont, to earn NEC Offensive Player of the Week distinction. Julianna Kratz ’23 pulled in NEC Rookie of the Week honors for the second straight week after scoring a goal and an assist in the win over Saint Francis.
