Fairfield Volleyball is the MAAC Regular Season Champion and top seed in the tournament.
Fairfield University Volleyball will host the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Volleyball Championship this weekend on George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall. The tournament begins on Friday, Nov. 22 with the first-place Stags taking the court on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m.
Friday’s action will see Quinnipiac challenge Rider at 5 p.m., followed by Marist meeting Niagara. The Stags will host the winner of the Marist/Niagara clash with Canisius sparring with either Rider or Quinnipiac in Saturday’s semifinals. The 2019 MAAC Championship Match is slated for Sunday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m.
All five matches of the 2019 MAAC Championship will be broadcast live by the Stags Sports Network on ESPN+ with J.J. Duke and 2018 MAAC Player of the Year Claire Archibald calling all of the action. Tickets and All-Session Passes are on sale now at MAACSports.com/Tickets. Fairfield University students will receive free admission to all of Fairfield’s matches throughout the tournament.
Fairfield enters the postseason as the MAAC Regular Season Champion, owning a record of 22-5 overall and 17-1 in the MAAC. The Stags were recognized for their performance at Thursday evening’s awards banquet. Manuela Nicolini ’20 became the first player in MAAC history to earn both MAAC Player and Setter of the Year laurels, while Head Coach Todd Kress collected his conference-record seventh MAAC Coach of the Year distinction.
Nicolini and Joelle Battles ’23 were tabbed for the All-MAAC First Team, with Kaylie Butts ’21 and Mayda Garcia ’20 collecting All-MAAC Second Team honors. To round of the evening’s awards, eight Stags were named to the MAAC All-Academic Team.
