The Met: Live in HD – Summer Encore Opera Performances at the Quick

Romeo and Juliette on stage

Star-crossed lovers in Roméo et Juliette

Escape the afternoon heat this summer by settling into a comfortable seat at the cool Quick, to enjoy your choice of four extraordinary screenings of previously recorded productions from New York City’s Metropolitan Opera.

The Met: Live in HD showcases screenings of internationally acclaimed performances from the Metropolitan Opera in New York City.  Starring world-famous talents, these productions are transmitted in high-definition video to select venues worldwide, including the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University.

This summer, the Quick Center has added four encore screenings of The Met: Live in HD to its calendar of events. Tickets are now available for this “best of” selection of performances from past Metropolitan Opera seasons:

Roméo et Juliette

On Thursday, June 20 at 1 p.m., the Quick will host an encore performance of The Metropolitan Opera’s Roméo et Juliette. Conducted by Gianandrea Noseda, this highlight performance from the 2016-17 season features a pair of charismatic artists – tenor Vittorio Grigolo and soprano Diana Damrau – as the star-crossed lovers in Gounod’s dreamy adaptation of Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy.

La Bohème

On Wednesday, June 26 at 1 p.m., tenor Vittorio Grigolo returns to the screen opposite soprano Kristine Opolais in Franco Zeffirelli’s picturesque staging of Puccini’s La Bohème. The winning young stars Opolais and Grigolo play lovers Mimì and Rodolfo in this Metropolitan Opera performance from the 2013-14 season, conducted by Stefano Ranzani.

Il Barbiere di Siviglia

On Saturday, July 20 at 1 p.m., the encore screening of Il Barbiere di Siviglia from the Met’s 2006-07 season stars mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, tenor Juan Diego Flórez, and baritone Peter Mattei. This spirited production of Rossini’s madcap comedy is directed by Tony Award–winner Bartlett Sher and conducted by Maurizio Benini.

Aida

On Saturday, July 27 at 1 p.m., fresh from the Met's 2018-19 season, Soprano Anna Netrebko and mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili offer blazing performances in an encore screening of Verdi’s grand drama of ancient Egypt, Aida. This stunning production by Sonja Frisell is conducted by Nicola Luisotti. Few operas can match Aida in its exploration of the conflict between private emotion and public duty, and perhaps none other is as unanimously appreciated by audiences and critics alike.

Tickets for The Met: Live in HD encore performance screenings are $25 each; for Quick Members, they are $20. Tickets for children and students (including Fairfield University students) are $5.
