Students, faculty, and local employers will discuss business analytics trends and applications including database analytics, forecasting, and data mining.
On Wednesday, January 30 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. the Dolan School will host the first annual Business Analytics Showcase. Local businesses including Blumshapiro, Synchrony Financial, and Travelers will demonstrate the role analytics plays in their companies. Fairfield business analytics students will share classroom projects and faculty will share cutting-edge research in the field and give a tour of Dolan’s web-based business analytics classroom.
“The Business Analytics Showcase will be an opportunity to build a community of people interested in analytics and bring together students, faculty, and employers to each demonstrate their work in the field,” said Chris Huntley, PhD, associate professor of information systems and operations management, who will present at the event.
Conlisk scholar Martin Browne, who joined Fairfield last fall and is pursuing a master’s degree in business analytics, will present his paper which examines whether economic growth and stock market performance can forecast consumer confidence.
“This topic is relevant as economic growth and stock market performance are cited in news outlets daily as measures of the economy’s performance,” said Martin. “I thought it would be interesting to see what effect, if any, they had on consumer confidence.”
