Following this year's Fairfield Awards Dinner, alumnus comedian Joe DeVito '90 of NBC's Last Comic Standing fame will bring his talents to the annual fundraising gala's after-party.

Since 1988, the annual Fairfield Awards Dinner has been a true celebration of Fairfield and has raised more than $18 million for the Alumni Multicultural Scholarship Fund and other endowed scholarships.

Continuing to recognize professional achievement, outstanding leadership, and volunteer commitment to Fairfield, the 2019 Fairfield Awards Dinner will take place on March 28 at the Grand Hyatt in New York City.

Once the evening’s program and dinner have concluded, the Fairfield University Alumni Association will host an after party where DeVito will perform. “A big part of comedy is shared experiences, so it’ll be fun to talk about memories from our Fairfield days. I may name names,” DeVito said about what guests can expect from his stand-up routine.

DeVito, an English major while at Fairfield, served as editor-in-chief of the student newspaper The Mirror, which was the beginning of his interest in comedy writing. These days, in addition to a full slate of stand-up performances in the U.S. and Canada, DeVito’s full-time comedy career is jam-packed with podcasts, panel appearances, teaching comedy workshops, and one-on-one coaching.

“Joe DeVito is the perfect person to perform at the Fairfield Awards Dinner,” said Joe Solimine Jr. ’89, a member of the awards dinner committee and a past recipient of the service award. “I cannot forget the way every interaction with Joe has left me laughing and generally in a better place. Since our time together on campus, I’ve happily followed Joe's career and hired him to perform at two events where he brought down the house."
