Women’s Lacrosse Surging towards MAAC Postseason

The Stags celebrate their MAAC win at Marist on April 6

The Stags have won six straight games to climb atop the conference standings.

With this past Wednesday’s thrilling 13-12 win over Monmouth, Fairfield Women’s Lacrosse picked up its sixth consecutive victory and moved to 5-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The Stags currently stand alone atop the conference standings and, with three games left in the regular season, have clinched a postseason berth in the upcoming MAAC Championship.

Head Coach Laura Field has guided her squad to a 10-3 overall record this spring, one season after winning the MAAC Championship to reach the NCAA postseason for the third time in program history. The Stags have been led on the offensive end by graduate student Brooke Gallagher ’18 with a team-best 50 points, while Taylor Mitchell ’19 is Fairfield’s leading goal scorer with 31 markers on the year.

The Stags’ defense has been a hallmark of its success, led by co-captains Erin Mammele ’19 and Megan Beach ’19. The defensive midfield has featured standout performances from Maggie Reynolds ’21 and Kelly Horning ’21, with rookie goalkeeper Olivia Conquest ’22 protecting the Fairfield cage.

Fairfield continues its MAAC schedule this Saturday, April 13, with a trip to Siena before returning home to Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium to host Iona (April 17) and Canisius (April 20).

The MAAC Championship begins on Saturday, April 27 with the “final four” set for May 2-4. More information about the Stags’ upcoming trip to the postseason will be announced on FairfieldStags.com as it is finalized by the conference office.
