The energy was palpable over Move-In Weekend as 1,465 first-year students arrived on campus to begin their Fairfield journey.
A New Chapter

For many first-year students, Move-In Day is a blur: cars being unloaded, boxes stacked on the sidewalk, families saying their goodbyes. Behind the scenes, it takes a village: Residence Life staff, New Student Leaders, and student, faculty, and staff volunteers were on hand all weekend, helping new Stags settle in, learn their way around campus, and feel at home.
"Move-In Weekend is a full team effort and I'm proud of how our Residence Life staff, New Student Leaders, and volunteers came together to make sure every new student felt welcomed the moment they arrived," said Meredith Smith, assistant vice president and director of residence life.
As students spent Saturday afternoon unpacking and meeting classmates, the day signaled the start of a new chapter for the Class of 2030—one to be filled with the friendships, challenges, and opportunities that will shape their next four years.
Welcome Back
The excitement didn't end with the first-years. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors came back to campus on Sunday. The residence halls, apartments, and townhouses were buzzing with activity as the classes of 2027, 2028, and 2029 returned for another year.
A food truck festival welcomed the full student body home, inviting friends to meet up, grab a bite, and ease back into the rhythm of the semester. At the end of the first week of classes, one of Fairfield's newer traditions took place: the Jesuit Residence Hall Room Blessings.
Bless This Room
What started a few years ago as a simple gesture has grown into something bigger—even going a little viral on social media last year, thanks to Rev. John Savard, S.J.,’78, Fairfield’s gregarious director of Campus Ministry. Jesuit Room Blessings are now a much-anticipated fall campus event.
Due to high demand, Campus Ministry expanded the program this year. Instead of a single Jesuit priest leading every blessing, Fr. Savard’s colleagues in the Fairfield Jesuit Community joined in and were each assigned a residence hall, visiting students' rooms upon request.
The event offered students a chance to meet members of Fairfield’s Jesuit community and pause for a moment at the start of a busy semester to invite a little faith and reflection into the space they'll call home for the year.
