On Tuesday, Feb. 11, Fairfield University hosted its annual MLK Convocation at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts, featuring Eddie S. Glaude Jr., author, political commentator, public intellectual, and educator. A leading voice on the complex dynamics of the American experience, Dr. Glaude addressed the University community with remarks that challenged and galvanized attendees.
Challenging Injustice: Fear as Fuel for Change
This year’s theme, “Challenging Injustice: Fear as Fuel for Change,” encouraged participants to pursue justice even in moments of uncertainty—a charge Dr. Glaude emphasized throughout his Convocation address. Nearly 500 attendees gathered for the event, engaging in reflection and dialogue shaped by his call to action.
The Convocation anchored Fairfield University’s MLK Week Celebration, which also included programs such as the Youth Leadership Academy and the Celebration of Activism. Together, these events invited the University community to reflect on the courage exemplified by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and others who have advanced the cause of justice.

As part of the celebration, the University also honored the 2026 Vision Award recipients. The Vision Award recognizes individuals whose personal and institutional achievements in leadership and service demonstrate a strong commitment to advancing the ideals and values of Dr. King.
