A trip to London with Valeria Martinez, PhD, associate professor of finance in the Charles F. Dolan School of Business, gave students in her "Global Capital Markets" course the opportunity to experience the overseas financial industry firsthand.

Designed to complement classroom learning, the immersive itinerary included professional site visits, conversations with industry leaders, and opportunities to experience London’s history and culture.

A visit to Jefferies, a global investment banking firm, served as the centerpiece of the trip. During the half-day program, current and former Jefferies employees—all Fairfield alumni—gave a presentation on the rise of private credit before participating in a panel discussion and question-and-answer session with students. Throughout the program, alumni openly shared their industry expertise, insights, and career advice. “Their [the alumni’s] dedication, commitment to our students, and professionalism was exceptional. We are very thankful for the time and expertise they shared with us,” said Dr. Martinez.

For Dillon Carter ’28, the experience strengthened his understanding of the value of Fairfield’s alumni network. “These alumni are very busy but they still took time out of their day to help us," he said. "That really demonstrated to me Fairfield's strong alumni network."

Presenters and panelists included Tom Brady ’88, president and chief executive officer of Jefferies; Tom Muoio ’85; Thomas Graziano ’92; and Kevin Del Mauro ’08. The opportunity was made possible in large part through the time and effort these alumni invested.

“The visit provided students with a deep dive into the current Private Credit markets, which have been capturing business headlines recently,” said Muoio. “In addition to learning more about these markets, the dialogue should also help students look deeper than the headlines with a more critical eye to what is happening in this multi-trillion-dollar industry.”

Following the program, the alumni, students, and faculty enjoyed a lunch together, which included a discussion led by Matthew Vincequerra ’98 about his work at Oppenheimer, a global brokerage and investment bank.

Brady was grateful for the opportunity to engage with current students. “With the success of the day and the highly interactive engagement from all of the students, it was truly a rewarding day that reinforced my connection to Fairfield,” he said. “I hope the students were able to see that our bonds to the Fairfield community last forever.”

Following the success of the trip, a June 2027 London class trip is being planned with further engagement from London-based Stags.
